p07 · The test that fails on Tuesdays

a task that could be any kind of stuck.

An integration test fails roughly one run in twenty, more often early in the week. It checks that an export job produces a file with yesterday's records. The failure message says the file has zero rows. Re-running it passes.

Why stuck: I have retried it so often that I no longer believe it is telling me anything, and I have not looked at why Tuesday.

Tried: Added a retry to the test; added a sleep before the assertion; marked it flaky in the test runner.

Everyone starts from: Increase the retry count from two to five and lengthen the sleep.
