p08 · Explaining the outage
a task that could be any kind of stuck.
A post-incident note for customers must explain a four-hour outage caused by an expired certificate that three monitoring systems failed to catch. The draft is 900 words, apologises four times, and the engineering lead says it reads as either blaming a person or blaming nobody.
Why stuck: Every rewrite swings between too much detail and too little, and I cannot find the sentence that says what actually happened.
Tried: Four drafts; a timeline section; removed the timeline; added a 'what we're doing' section.
Everyone starts from: Trim the draft to 600 words, keep two apologies, and lead with the 'what we're doing' section.
